Preparing Your CSV File

With AMI, you can make sure your multiple lists of contacts are stored in one place. To make the most of AMI, it's crucial to have your contacts added to AMI.

If you already have a CSV for your contacts, skip the steps below and check out this Help Portal article on how to upload your CSV to AMI.

What’s a CSV file?

'CSV' stands for Comma Separated Values and is basically a fancy term for a different way of formatting a spreadsheet. It’s super easy, we promise!

If already have contacts in a spreadsheet

  1. First things first, make sure the formatting matches ours! Take a look at our Example CSV File. It’s super important that your column titles (headers) match ours so that all information is imported to AMI properly. We don’t want you to have to deal with errors.
  2. Create a copy of our example CSV file by clicking here or download it by clicking here on your computer and open it in Excel, Numbers, or another software that edits CSV file

If you don't already have a spreadsheet of contacts

If you are starting from scratch, download and save a copy of the  Example Excel File and start filling it out with all your contact information. We know this is tedious now, but it is worth it in the long run!

  1. Navigate to the File menu.
  2. Select Save As.
  3. Click the dropdown menu for File Format.
  4. Choose Comma Separated Values (.csv).

Tips for creating your CSV

  • Each column refers to a section in AMI that will be filled in with that information. Example: First Name will go in the First Name section of the profile.
  • If you are missing information for a contact, just leave the column empty - For example, see that we’re missing Customer Number for our contacts so we’ve left the column blank.
  • You must have one other piece of contact information beyond name for the data to be valid. Why? This way you can reach out to the customers or contacts you're uploading.
  • For Facebook handles and Instagram handles, be sure that they are properly formatted. For Facebook, that means that if your contact's profile URL is, only type in "sellwithami" as their handle. For Instagram, if their handle is @sellwithami, only type in "sellwithami" in your CSV.
